"UCP Recognizes Family Caregivers
"

November 20, 2007

United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) is recognizing the National Family Caregivers Association (NFCA) this month.

The NFCA contributes a great deal to the help those who are living with cerebral palsy and the UCP is dedicating the month of November to give thanks to the more than 50 million caregivers that are active in this association across America.

The UCP Encourages Others to Speak Up

The theme of the UCP’s Caregivers Month is “Speak Up.”

The goal of this theme is to encourage the general public to become more aware of this disability and to fight for a stronger public policy involving family care giving matters.

Members of the UCP also hope that the theme will help to raise awareness about various programs throughout the communities that support the NFCA.

Giving Back to Caregivers

Members of the NFCA provide those living with cerebral palsy, along with their families and friends, with a wide array of emotional, social and financial services on a daily basis.

Recently, the NFCA created Online “How to Guides” to help similar organizations to plan activities that will focus on giving thanks to the caregivers that work to raise awareness about cerebral palsy.

The “How to Guides” give tips including how to:

- Offer family caregivers the support they deserve by awarding them from time to time

- Start a support group solely for family caregivers

- Host a Family Caregivers Day that will help show caregivers the appreciation felt by the community for their work
