New Study Links Cerebral Palsy and Abortion

A study that was published in this month's Journal of Reproductive Medicine analyzed the link with abortion and premature birth and cerebral palsy. Physicians in Canada and the U.S conducted the study, which examined the data from more than four million births.

Study Focuses on Premature Births

Professor and Vice Chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology at West Virginia University, Dr. Byron Calhoun, says that in the study, they found that one-third of cases for those who are “very pre-term” are the result of the mother's choice to have an abortion earlier in life. For babies who spend less than 32 weeks in the womb, they are more likely to have complications due to their low body weight. According to statistics, about 32 percent of babies in the U.S. and Canada have a low body weight and eight percent of them have a good chance of being born with a disability such as cerebral palsy.

The Implications of Abortion

“For years, we have warned that abortion harms women, and children, and now researchers are certifying that victims' future siblings are at greater risk for having lifelong disease,” president of the Family Research Council, Tony Perkins explains.
