"Mother Found Guilty for Murdering Son With CP"
July 24, 2007
Last Friday, an Ohio mother of six was proven guilty for dousing her house with gasoline and killing her 26-year-old son who was confined to a wheelchair.
Lisa Henry, 48, who pleaded not guilty because of insanity, was convicted of arson, aggravated murder, and three counts of child endangerment.
Ongoing Case
The trial, which has been ongoing since September, has had the entire community questioning Lisa Henry’s sanity.
Henry was the guardian of her son Michael, who had cerebral palsy, and her three granddaughters who ranged in age from one to three.
When Henry set the house on fire, the three children were able to get out in time and were not injured; however, Michael, who was tucked in his bed by his mother and doused in gasoline, was not as fortunate.
He Said, She Said
Henry’s attorney, David McGee claims that when the mother arrived home, Michael had already died from natural causes and in a temporary fit of insanity, Henry set the house on fire.
However, Prosecutor Karen Kowall alleges that Henry knowingly murdered her son after her son-in-law threatened to call Human Services on her because of the horrid conditions Michael was living in.
“He was separated from his family, ate most of his meals in his room and had nothing but a radio for company. Mrs. Henry acted out of fear and desperation that authorities would find out the condition of the home,” claims Kowall.
Henry will be sentenced in a month and faces life in prison for the charges against her.
