"Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Benefits Those With CP"

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy, a treatment that was once used as a treatment for smoke inhalation and monoxide poisoning, is reportedly now being used to treat those with autism and cerebral palsy.
This form of therapy is being widely used across the United States, particularly in southeastern Massachusetts.
What Is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy?
According to reports, the Caritas Good Samaritan Medical Center is planning on opening a center that specializes in hyperbaric oxygen therapy within a year.
Two facilities just like the one currently in development have already opened in the southeastern Massachusetts area.
Therapy Used to Help CP Patients
During the therapy treatments, patients are put into a chamber with air pressure that is greater than sea level.
The patient breathes in 100 percent oxygen, which is five times the average amount, for several hours.
The increased level of pressure reportedly kills bacteria that may be present in the bloodstream and enables new blood vessels to grow.
“It’s just now becoming more accepted and widely prescribed. That’s why more facilities are getting chambers,” explains Dr. Grace Doherty, the medical director at the Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment Center.
