An English mother whose child suffered
birth injuries during delivery is taking legal action against healthcare providers she feels are responsible for the injuries. Birth injuries can ofter lead to serious disorders like cerebral palsy.
Geraldine Hargrove's son, Cayden Sweeting, suffers from
Erb's Palsy, which is a condition where nerves in the arm that allow movement and feeling are damaged, according to the South Wales Argus. Hargrove believes the condition was caused during birth when Cayden became stuck. As a result, only two nerves at the top of Cayden's right arm are connected.
She is now taking the Aneurin Bevan Health Board to the courts. She claims that she was concerned that she might need a caesarian section because of family history and she was also fearful about giving birth to a large baby because of her slight build. She says that the hospital didn't recognize these concerns until it was too late in labor for anything to be done.
"I just want someone to say sorry," Hargrove told the news source.
Birth injuries can cause a variety of conditions and disorders, including cerebral palsy, which the March of Dimes estimates two to three children in every 1,000 suffer from in America.
