Cerebral Palsy Patients Benefit from Water Workouts

A new form of therapy has been introduced at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill for patients living with cerebral palsy. Both children and adults have reportedly benefited from the therapy, which uses water aerobics to gain strength mobility and hope in patients.

Successful Treatment

Research shows that about 350 children are born with cerebral palsy in the U.S. each yearly. This is why it’s important for various therapies and treatments to be consistently introduced to enhance the lives of these patients.

Counselor Supports Water Therapy

George Kourtsounis, 31, is a well-credited counselor who has been taking part in the water workout trials since they were introduced. As opposed to some patients who take a different route and allow themselves to go downhill, he puts all of his energy into his workouts in order to maintain strength and agility.

CP Patients Keeping Active

Researchers say that an important factor for those living with cerebral palsy to remember is to keep active, both mentally and physically. By beginning children in water workouts and other forms of therapy from an early age, their overall health will benefit as they grow older.
