New Toy Introduced for Kids with CP

Due to muscle spasms and impaired ability, cerebral palsy patients are often unable to participate doing all the activities that other children can do. New tricycles are now offering hope to parents who have children with disabilities.

Accessible Toys Are to Find

Until recently, a majority of toys being sold throughout the U.S. didn’t cater to children who have disabilities. For this reason, many kids have been prevented from living their lives as youths to the fullest. Many toys simply weren’t safe for children who have cerebral palsy to play with since they have certain limitations.

AmTryke Introduced

The AmTryke was initially previewed when it was given as a donation to a seven-year-old girl, Regan Swisher, living with cerebral palsy. Regan is one of four siblings and until the bike was given to her, had a difficult time playing with her brother and sisters because she couldn’t use the toys they used. “Before when they would go up the driveway she would say I want to go too, but her tricycle couldn’t maneuver up the driveway,” recalls Audrey, the little girl’s mother.

Benefits of the Bike

The AmTryke is unique in the fact that it was designed to help children with disabilities work on their movement in a fun way. “Reciprocal leg movement is something every physical therapist wants the child to work on because that’s how we walk, that’s how we crawl, so it’s very therapeutically beneficial,” explains Joyce Trower, a renowned physical therapist.
