Surgeon Charged for Death of Man With CP

The trial for a San Francisco plastic surgeon who traveled to San Luis Obispo in February 2006 to operate on a crippled man is finally underway. The surgeon was sent to San Luis Obispo to harvest the organs of a 26-year-old who was disabled from cerebral palsy and was dying from complications involving a metabolic disorder.

The Accusations

Dr. Hootan Roozrokh, 33, is being charged with one count of dependent adult abuse and one count of administering a risk substance to a human aware of the harm it could inflict. The complaint also states that Dr. Roozrokh is facing charges for administering unlawful medications that were not used for legitimate medical purposes.

Accelerated Death

According to reports, Dr. Roozrokh injected excessive amounts of morphine into the 80-pound patients stomach along with the painkiller morphine and the sedative Ativan. “We are alleging that the doctor's actions were an attempt to accelerate the man's death,” says Stephen Brown, the chief deputy district attorney for San Luis Obispo County.
