For children with disabilities, playtime is often hindered by their inability to do the things that other children can do. However, new tricycles have been introduced for those suffering from disabilities like
cerebral palsy.
Not All Toys Cater to CP Patients
Until now a majority of toys on the market did not cater to children with disabilities, which prevented them from living their lives as kids to the fullest. Many toys weren’t safe for
children with cerebral palsy to play with due to their limitations.
Bike Introduced
The AmTryke was first viewed as a donation to a seven-year-old girl, Regan Swisher, who is living with cerebral palsy. Regan has is one of four siblings and until now always had a difficult time playing with her brother and sisters.
“Before when they would go up the driveway she would say I want to go too, but her tricycle couldn’t maneuver up the driveway,” explains Regan’s mother, Audrey.
Benefits of AmTryke
The AmTryke is a special tricycle that has been designed to help children with
disabilities with their movement, while enabling them to have fun.
“Reciprocal leg movement is something every physical therapist wants the child to work on because that’s how we walk, that’s how we crawl, so it’s very therapeutically beneficial,” explains Physical Therapist Joyce Trower.
