"Senate Approves CHIP"

The U.S. Senate recently approved a reauthorization bill for CHIP (Children’s Health Insurance Program).
The March of Dimes issued a statement commending the Senate’s decision stating that the program is crucial and important for the well being of American children.
Bill Details
CHIP is set up to provide insurance for children of working class families.
The bill would enable states to maintain coverage for more than 6 million infants and children who are enrolled in the program.
It would also enable 3.3 million uninsured children to receive coverage.
How Will the Bill Help?
The bill proves to be especially important for lower class families who have children born with illnesses like cerebral palsy and need extra medical care.
Provisions made to the bill will also permit states to cover uninsured pregnant women who are within CHIP’s income guidelines.
Mother’s who receive prenatal and post-partum care are more likely to deliver healthy babies, which in turn will decrease the amount of children born with birth defects and health problems.
The bill also contains a variety of provisions that will aim at improving the quality of pediatric care in the U.S.
