"Toys Catered Towards Kids with Disabilities"

For parents of children with disabilities like cerebral palsy, Christmas can often be a strenuous time of trying to find that perfect toy.
Carla Edwards, the analyst and administrative director at the Dallas-based Behavioral Innovations Inc., dedicates her time over the holidays to finding toys that will enhance the learning process for disabled children, while providing them with entertainment.
Toy Guide Helps Shoppers
“I always tell them that it’s best to start with what you know your child loves,” says Edwards. “When I’m buying toys for us to use in therapy, I try to find items with different components. So if it plays music, I want it to play more than one song.”
This year, Edwards is encouraging parents to refer to the Toy Guide provided by Toys “R” Us.
The guide, which is free, features toys that cater to children with developmental problems.
From children with fine motor skills to those having trouble with language development, the toys featured in the guide allow children to learn and have fun.
“The guide should help people make better choices,” explains the center’s director, Diana Nielander.
