Botox Lends a Helping Hand to CP Patients

More and more doctors are praising Botox for its positive benefits for patients living with cerebral palsy. At treatment centers such as the Botox Clinic at Gillette Children’s Hospital in St. Paul, MN, hundreds of children with cerebral palsy are being treated yearly.

Little Girl Receives Treatments

One such patient who has benefited greatly from receiving Botox treatments is Tori Jenson, a three-year-old living with cerebral palsy who visits the clinic often to receive some much needed relief. According to Tori’s parents, the shots help her relax the spastic muscles she has that affect her arms and legs. “If the Botox didn’t work so well, we probably wouldn’t do this,” explains Tori’s mother, Casey Jorgenson.

Botox Proven Beneficial

Botox is no longer used solely for cosmetic purposes. It has now become a fast fix for disabled patients who need to relieve the pain they can be faced with on a daily basis. “You can use Botox for a lot more clinical problems than we originally thought,” explains Dr. Dennis Dykstra, chair of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Minnesota Medical School.
