The Advanced Management of Pediatric Spasticity, or AMPS, was recently created to help streamline care for children who are living with cerebral palsy and are also having health complications.
Spasticity is a condition that many children with cerebral palsy tend to experience.
This is something which can prevent them from walking and moving as they normally would in their daily lives.
Patient Benefits from Program
Aaron Van Kampen was reportedly diagnosed with cerebral palsy seven months after his birth and since his diagnosis had trouble walking.
Aaron was one of the many patients who was experiencing spasticity.
He was basically trapped in a body that fought him with every step, say his parents.
Surgery Helps with Spasticity
Aaron had surgery to help his condition and two weeks after was supposedly putting on his sock all by himself.
The program that enabled this surgery to happen is reportedly a collaborative effort between the Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital and Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital
AMPS offers families like the Van Kampens access to a team of specialists who work together to develop the right treatment plan that’s catered to each child.
