$18M Settlement Reached in Birth Injury Case

A settlement was recently reached in Milwaukee regarding the lawsuit by a family whose daughter was born with cerebral palsy. The $18 million settlement was reached after the jury found the girl’s brain damage was due to negligence during her birth.

Little Girl Becomes Victim

Jacqueline Lugo’s gave birth to her daughter at medical center, where during her birth, the baby reportedly got stuck in the birth canal for 20 minutes due to an error on the doctor’s part. The child sustained severe brain injury due to an extreme lack of oxygen and now is living with cerebral palsy.

Suit Filed Against Medical Center

A lawsuit has been filed against the government and the medical center where the girl was delivered. The Lugo’s claim the doctors and nurses in charge were careless and are holding them responsible for their daughter’s disabilities. After a doctor supposedly told nurses to induce labor, the treatment caused the baby to get stuck. “While we cannot reverse the emotional and physical damages, this award will assist the family in putting the pieces of their life back together,” says Euel Kinsey, the attorney for the family.
